SD241901.08 || Joint Shore Leave/Pre-Arrival Log || "Tony & Mira Take on Sal'kiir" [11/12]

Posted on Wed Jan 9th, 2019 @ 4:27am by Lieutenant Commander Anthony Manelli & Lieutenant Commander Mirabella Basso

Mission: Once More Unto The Horizon
Location: The Planet Sal'kiir, Omega Fleet Territory

"I will be," she said warmly. "Forever, now."

=/\= The Continuation...

"Would you believe it?" Mira declared with a laugh as she walked back into their hotel room, having just been down to the front desk to speak to the clerk--or whatever the Sal'kiiran equivalent was. "We are not the first couple of people from Starfleet to ask just this question!"

"Really?" Tony said. "I wonder if it's something in the water?" He then chuckled before continuing. "Actually I can understand why. There are a lot of places from what I've seen that would be good places to be married here on Sal'kiirr. So were you able to find someone to marry us?"

"I did!" she said, with no lack of excitement. "There happens to be a place here in the city where someone works and he does weddings. It sounds like what the human world would call a justice of the peace, but I can't pronounce the Sal'kiiran word that was used. I guess he'll even file the marriage certificate with Starfleet. Now that they're a member of the Federation, weddings performed by native peoples are recognized."

"Sounds like all we need to do is show up," Tony said, obviously pleased with her findings. "I wonder if he would be willing to perform the ceremony in the field of flowers near that little village - if that's where you'd like it - or would it have to be in his office?"

"From the sounds of it," she replied, "he works here in the city. I think to do it anywhere else would probably require more planning and advanced notice. If we want to do it before we go back to the ship, it's here."

"I definitely want to marry you before we go back to the ship, so we do it here." Tony was eager to make her his wife so he asked "Are you ready to go now?"

"I am!" she exclaimed with a giggle, grabbing his hand and all but pulling him out the door.

The address they had been given was in, what Tony supposed,, was the Earth equivalent of a county courthouse. Thanks to their beginning understanding of the Sal'kiir numbering system, they were able to find the correct office without too much trouble. When they walked in,, a man behind a desk looked up and nodded tp them

"Miight I help you?" he asked.

"We would like to get married," Tony answered quickly.

"You've come to the right place," the government official said. "May I Have your names, species, and home planet, please?"

"My name is Anthony Manelli, I am human, and I am from Earth." Tony said as he watched the man enter the information on his computer terminal.

"And you, Ma'am...?" he asked, turning his attention to Mira.

"Mirabella Basso, human, and Turkana IV," she replied, only biting the inside of her cheek a little bit at saying the name of her dreaded home world aloud.

"Thank you," the man--Air region, she guessed--said, nodding once and turning to his screen, tapping in the commands. "If you would just have a seat over there, please. Someone will come out and get you."

Tony and Mira took seats together on the far side of the room and sat down to wait. "I can't believe we're actually doing this..." Tony said after a moment. "And I hope you know I love you more than I can ever say."

She flashed him a smile. Mira had always been a rather self-confident thing, so once she made a choice, that was that. She was as certain of this as everything, even though she was equally aware that everyone else would probably think them both insane. "And I love you." Wow, those words were still weird to say, but she meant them. "Which is more than I can ever say of anyone else I've known."

After a few minutes, a door opened and a middle-aged Sal'kiiran female stepped out. She appeared to be from the Air Region and seemed to carry herself wiith an almost regal look. "Mister Manelli and Ms. Basso?" she inquired. ."Come with me, please."

They followed her into a room where there was something that resembled a cross between a church altar and a judge's bench. After taking her place, the woman turned to them and said "Please face each other and join hands."

Tony took Mira's hands in his and looked directly into her eyes as they waited for the official to continue. When she did, it was with a question. "Do you desire to be married at this time and in this place?" To Tony, it sounded like a question she was required by local law to ask.

"We do," Tony answered simply.

"Very well," She nodded slightly. "Let us begin. Mister Manelli, do you have a vow or promise you wish to say to Ms. Basso?"

"I have," Tony answered, then turned his attention back to Mira.

"In my life there was darkness, but now there is light. That light is you. You are my best friend. Today I give myself to you. Using the love that we share as a vessel, through the pressures of the present and the uncertainties of our future, I can promise that you will always have my deepest love, my fullest devotion, and my most tender care.
I promise to love you, to always strive to encourage and inspire you, to laugh with you, and to comfort you in times of sorrow and struggle. I promise to love you in good times and in bad, when life seems easy and also when times become difficult, when our love is simple, and when things becomes complicated. I promise to honor you, and to always hold our love for each other in highest regard These things I pledge to you today, and all the days of our life together. I love you Il Mia Cuore....."

The woman then turned to Mira. "And do you have a vow or promise you wish to say to Mister Manelli?"

Never one to shirk from having to come up with a plan on the fly, she turned to Tony. Her dark eyes flashed and she smiled, thinking fast. "I didn't know what love was, not for myself, before you came along. Now I do, and I don't ever want to let it go. I don't ever want to let you go. Like I said earlier, these moments come but once, and I'm going to grab this one. I want to keep and hold you forever."

Tony resisted the urge to release her hands and take her into his arms but he would wait until their ceremony was over. He never thought he would feel about someone like he did about her. He felt like there had been a hole in his heart and she now filled it perfectly. "You are my heart, Mira..." he whispered to her. "And you always will be."

The officiant recited some words in Sal'kiiran and then said to them, "With the duty afforded me by the city government of Sal'kiir, I declare you two to be bonded here and forever." The woman smiled faintly. "As they do in your culture, you may kiss your bride."

He released her hands, then took her in his arms and kissed her deeply. When the kiss ended he smiled at her and said "I love you, my wife." He liked the way it sounded and he knew he always would.
